to the fire in oakland we showed you at the top of the show. you can see the flames burning through the top of the building. we understand it's a three-story building right off of 880 in a residential mixed use neighborhood. you can see the fire is burning right through the roof of that building. there are lots of firefighters on scene. traffic is moving around the home, and it's butting up against 880. so far we haven't heard any word of any traffic problems. a great amount of smoke billowing into the air. a tough situation for firefighters. it is very dark and, as you can see, it appears to be raining in that area right now. but still a lot of thick smoke and flames coming up. at this point we're hearing the building is awan dobandoned but there's no condition firmati confirmation it has been checked o out. >>> well, the hype in coupertin didn't live up to the hype. investors lost a good chunk of money. let's check in with scott budman and the apple stores. underperforming. we haven't said that about apple in a long time. >> reporter: when you're the most valuable company in the world as

of my battling a 2 alarm fire last night in a vacant oakland home. here is video from the scene. the fire for started around 5:00 p.m., and the 600 block of harrison street near oakland's chinatown neighborhood. when firefighters arrived they found two people on a neighboring roof, and it appeared that they had stayed there from the burning home. the two were detained by oakland police for questioning. authorities say that the building is a total loss. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. >> meanwhile, police are investigating a body that was found along the alameda shore line. authorities say a man was walking down a path at robert w. crowned memorial state beach and noticed a body or around 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning. alameda fire crews pulled on the man's body from the water near was blind and shoreline drives. he is believed to be 87 between 20 and 30 years old, he was fully close with no obvious sign of trauma. if police believe that the body had been in the water for about six hours. the alameda county coroner's office is working to identify the man. >> if

. >>> the man accused of killing two teenage girls in oakland last november expected to return to court today. powell and edwards now facing charges for the shooting deaths of 16-year-old bobbie sartain and 15-year-old raquel gerstel. prosecutors say these girls described as best friends were gunned down in oakland on the morning of november 25th. the suspects are expected to enter their pleas today. >>> funeral services will be held this morning for a hit-and-run victim who died during a new year's day police chase in san francisco. he was hit by a car while he was walking into a liquor store in the mission district. two other bystanders were also hit and killed. police say the chase started after receiving reports of shots fired at a nearby apartment complex. meantime, the 19-year-old suspect is awaiting trial. the board of pilot commissioners will meet this morning for the first time since the tanker crashed into the bay bridge. the board's agenda does not include the crash but board members could talk about the january 7th incident. it was foggy when the tanker sideswiped the bridge. ther

this morning, an update to a story we have been following in the east bay. the oakland zoo says the alligator that was found just yesterday guarding a stash of pot inside a castro valley home has died. alameda county sheriff's deputies found the gator named mr. teeth when doing a routine probation check. it was in a tank, apparently guarding 34 pounds of dried marijuana. the gator was taken to the oakland zoo where it was placed in quarantine after its owner said it was very sick. that owner is now in jail. >>> some relief for a hayward mother whose daughter was kidnapped in 1998 and never seen again. a bone fragment found in a well in linden does not match michaele garecht's dna. the well is believed to be a dumping ground for the so-called speed freak killers. in a blog post, garecht says she's disappointed there's still no answer what happened to michaela but goes on to say, quote, the feeling i felt was a sense of relief. >>> san francisco police are hoping surveillance video will help them catch a suspected killer. police say this video right here shows a clean-shaven man with long hair

oakland where police are investigating a shooting that left two people wounded. police were called around about 5:30 after residents called about gunshots. one person was shot at that location. authorities were also called out to secretary of defense shooting location less than a mile away near i-580. they found a vehicle that collided into a pole. driver's side window was shot out and another person was struck by gunfire. both shooting victims took themselves to the hospital. there is no word on conditions or if any suspects have been arrested. >> the father of a petaluma girl found dead in south lake tahoe he now understands the pain that families go through. she was found dead yesterday. her family hosted a fund-raiser to bring support for families forced to deal with missing and exploited children. nick smith was there. >> melissa touched the hearts of so many people. >> evidence of that can be seen here at beyond the glory in petaluma. they will donate 10% of sales to missing and exploited children inspired by the loss of one of their own. >> she was -- most energetic people i've eve
